Welcome to the Infants!
Who Are We?
The summer holidays are a perfect time for children in Years 1 and 2 to continue learning through fun, play, and everyday experiences. Keeping skills fresh over the break helps children return to school feeling confident and ready to learn.
Here are some enjoyable and educational ideas to try at home:
Read Together Every Day
Reading regularly helps build vocabulary, imagination, and comprehension. Visit the library, read bedtime stories, or let your child read to you. Talk about the characters, settings, and what might happen next.
Practise Maths in Fun Ways
Short, regular practice helps build number confidence. Try these interactive websites:
- Hit The Button – Great for number bonds, doubling, halving, and times tables.
- EdShed – Includes Maths Shed and Spelling Shed for fun, curriculum-linked games.
- Times Tables Rock Stars (TT Rockstars) – A fun way to build fluency in multiplication and division.
Play Games Together
Board games, card games, and puzzles help develop logic, turn-taking, and problem-solving. Even simple games like “Snap” or “Snakes and Ladders” support early maths and social skills.
Explore the Outdoors
Go on nature walks, collect leaves or stones, or create a mini garden. Outdoor play supports physical development and curiosity about the world.
Get Creative
Draw, paint, build with LEGO, or make crafts from recycled materials. Creative play encourages imagination and fine motor skills.
Sing, Rhyme, and Move
Sing songs, dance, or play clapping games. These activities support rhythm, memory, and coordination.
Most importantly, enjoy the time together. Every shared story, walk, or game is a chance to learn and grow!
